How do I connect?

For now, Player's need the Master's IP address.
You can get your IP address here.

The Game Master needs to forward port 7007 to her computer, as is usual with any kind of server. Here is a site that will help you do that.

Is it Vista compatible?

Yes. The app itself is being developed in Vista x64 so it is compatible with all versions of Vista and XP (with SP2 or later).

Where do I put my map/mini/pic?

They go under "...(My)Documents/GlitterComm". The folders there should guide you as to what goes where. Feel free to create subfolders under those to organize your assets.

What is the size limit of a map?

There is no such a thing! If you have enough RAM, GC will open and resize the map to a manageable size, you don't have to worry about it. The manageable size is tricky to describe so I won't, suffice to say it is big.

If your map is so large that you still can't zoom in to the details, try breaking it up into smaller maps.

For example: I have scanned the map of Greyhawk from Dragon magazine. It is huge! When I present it whole I can't read individual city names, so I also have the map in quadrants. Usually that is enough, but I also have each quadrant divided into 4 more quadrants just in case. At that zoom level I can see the threads of the paper Wink . Just organize everything with folders and sensible names.

What is that "<map>.___.gccache" file?

It's the cache of the map (resized if necessary) used by GlitterComm for faster loading. Never mind those files, they manage themselves. They will be recreated if the original map changes. If you delete the original file, you should delete this file too so as to not leave garbage in your folders.

If you delete any of these files it will recreate itself next time you open the map.

What is that "<map>.___.<campaign>.gcdata" file?

This file contains all data pertaining the map as it applies to a specific campaign. In simple terms, it holds your cloak layer and mini positioning, among other things.

If you delete this file, or if the original map changes dimensions, the map will be treated like a new map next time you open it: fully cloaked and no minis.
